The Visual Nexus Version 3.2 Endpoint
The Visual Nexus Endpoint V3 is a Windows
software program, which allows the user to join peer-to-peer
or multipoint meetings over an IP connection. As with all
the products in the Visual Nexus meeting system solution,
the Endpoint is fully standards compliant, and is based on
the H.323, WebDAV and T.120 specifications. It enables business quality
Audio and Video calls to be made from a desktop personal computer,
while integrating data sharing and collaboration.
The foundation of the Visual Nexus Endpoint
is the eConf™ technology from France Telecom. This is
widely recognised as having the best available audio and video Codecs, which
provide very high quality, even at quite low-bandwidth. The
Codecs supported include
- H.261, H.263, H.263+ (peer-to-peer only), H.264
- G.722, G.711, TDAC, G.723.1 (peer-to-peer
only)
The audio set up process includes a noise/echo
cancellation mode for when loud speakers are being used rather
than a headset.
The Version 3.2 endpoint uses a simple presence based user interface. Once logged in a list of contacts is shown with their status, online, busy or offline. In addition available meeting rooms are also shown. To call a contact or enter a meeting room requires a simple click on their name.
The images of up to 8 participants may
be simultaneously and individually displayed. Video window sizes can be changed in real time from full screen to small video to best optimize the screen layout.
Continuous presence 4 (CP4)
mode is available for a single stream with 4 images. This is used
in environments where multi image video is required but bandwidth is limited.
A bandwidth efficient presentation
option has been introduced to allow data from PowerPoint, Word or Excel documents to be shared. The presenter shares information with all the
participants by distributing the files, either before or during the meeting. Once data sharing begins the data display is synchronized on each participants endpoint. In addition it supports H.239 data sharing with other standards based communication systems.
Integrated data collaboration (T.120) allows
all participants to jointly work on a document or application.
The application being shared only needs to be present on the
initiators computer. Each participant can request turns to
make changes or input data, while all the participants can
see the changes being made.
A new feature in the version 3.2 endpoint is the ability to record a video call or meeting. When turned on a symbol on the screen informs all other participants that the record mode is switched on.
Finally the endpoint
also supports the sharing of videos or images. A special feature of this option is the ability of the originator
of the video stream to talk over the video, creating a very
effective teaching environment.
The Visual Nexus Endpoint runs on a standard
Intel PC running Windows 2000 or Windows XP. The minimum recommended
processor is a Pentium 3 running at 650MHz with 256Mb of RAM.
